Sr. Dr. Mary Ngui

Biography

Sr. Dr. Mary Ngui was appointed to the position of acting Chief Executive Officer in Mater Misericordae Hospital in July 2020. She boosts of over 35 years’ progressive work experience in the healthcare sector.


She began her career in training as a Nurse in 1983 and did her midwifery in 1985. She qualified as a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse in 1990. She worked in Kibwezi, Makueni, The Mater Hospital, Njoro Clinic and Mukuru Promotion Centre. Her work brought her in contact with the sick and poor who needed compassion and healing of mind and body improving the quality of life of the patients in her care. This was in line with the ethos of the Sisters of Mercy of whom she has been a long term member and is currently a Trustee.


She did her Masters in Adelaide in 2004-2006. When she returned to Kenya, she took on the position of Director of Nursing in the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing at The Mater Hospital in Nairobi. She also served as a member of the Management team in the Mater Hospital at that time.


Her work as Director of Nursing ensured that standards are maintained and that each student attained the best to their ability. An important aspect of her role was the pastoral presence to students and staff. This set a culture at the institution which is followed to date


She served as a member of Mutomo Hospital Board. She was involved in the setting up of a new Nursing School, Our Lady of Lourdes Mutomo Nursing School that received the first intake in September 2017. She also served as a Pro-Term Principal and worked closely with the staff to ensure mentorship.


She also serves a member of the Archdiocese of Nairobi Health Board. She participate in the Nursing Council of Kenya’s various committees.


Recently, Dr. Ngui completed her Doctorate studies in Nursing and Midwifery from Selinus University of Science and literature
