Biography

Mary Wairimu Gitau IBVM, is a Religious Sister and a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commonly known as Loreto Sisters. She comes from the Archdiocese of Nairobi.


She first graduated from Marist College with a degree in Religious Studies and a diploma in Education, after which she taught in two schools - Loreto Nakuru and St. Teresa's Girls High School, Eastleigh. Later on she went to Rome where she studied at the Jesuit University - The Gregorian University - where she graduated with a Licentiate in Psychology.


For the last twenty years, she has been involved in different ministries mainly in formation, leadership and lecturing at Consolata Seminary and at the Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation in Tangaza University College.


Currently, she is the Pontifical Commissary for the Sisters of Mercy in Kenya, a ministry that began last year, 2019. She is also a Trustee of the Mater Hospital Staff Pension Scheme and the Loreto Staff Pension Scheme.
