Second Shoulder Arthroscopy Mission
The Mater Hospital is the only Hospital in Kenya undertaking Shoulder Arthroscopy. The Hospital recently hosted the second shoulder arthroscopy mission during which 19 patients suffering from shoulder complications were operated on. Patients were drawn from Nairobi, Malindi, Mombasa and others coming from as far as Rwanda The operations were performed by a team of our local orthopaedic surgeons (Dr. S.O. Owinga and Dr. Byakika), led by Dr. Wilhelm Du Toit from South Africa.

Currently the Shoulder Arthroscopy equipment is shipped from South Africa and the good news is that The Mater Hospital is in the process of acquiring its own. Some of our Doctors will soon be proceeding to Italy for specialised training. Another mission is scheduled to kick off from Sunday 28th February 2010 to 5th March 2010. Two South African specialists will be flown in to lead a team of four local doctors during this mission.
