By 7 am, the Nyayo National Stadium was a sea of green as enthusiastic supporters of The Mater Heart Run warmed up in readiness for the 10 kilometre family fun run. Little children who have benefited from heart surgery funded from the proceeds of The Heart Run got an opportunity to express their gratitude to the participants. They moved the crowd as they expressed the joy of having a normal childhood, following the life changing operations. The Mater Hospital CEO, Dr. John Muriithi, Terre des Hommes (TDH) regional Director, Petra Boovt, Capital FM Chairman, Chris Kirubi and Safaricom CEO, Michael Joseph, each made brief remarks before flagging off the run. This year’s event was bigger than ever, drawing over 20,000 participants. After the event, the young and the ‘young at heart’ stayed on for some roaring entertaiment from well known local celebrities, including Wahu, Churchill and Omosh. We at The Mater Hospital wish to sincerely thank all our sponsors and participants, some of whom we have listed on the opposite page. Your support and kindness will surely put a smile back on a little child’s face. May God richly bless you all. |

Saturday the 16th of May, 2009 was a big day for The Mater Hospital. On this day, Friends of The Mater Hospital drawn from Nairobi and its environs came together to support their favourite charity, The Mater Heart Run.
