The Obstetrics Theatre is conveniently located closer to the labor ward and takes care of maternity cases both emergency and planned caesarian sections are carried out here.

To meet the patients' needs for affordable medical services, the hospital has also introduced Day Care Surgery. The type of surgical cases handled on Day Care Basis include:-

Heart Surgery

For a number of years The Mater Hospital has been carrying out Heart Surgeries. The Hospital is one of the few in Kenya and indeed the East African region to offer this service.

The heart operations are carried out in a theatre with state of the art monitoring equipment. The cardiac team performs about 100 cases annually. Operations include correction of congenital malformation in children, valve replacement and coronary artery by-pass grafts in adults.

At the Catheterization Laboratory, diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures are performed. Visiting Cardiac Teams from other Cardiac Centers abroad join our team to perform complex cardiac operations, share their experiences with our team, as well as conduct lectures. This is usually a great learning opportunity and complements the hospital's continuous medical education program.
